The wolf is thought to be an ice age survivor, dating wolves around 300,000 years ago. The wolf is accepted to be the ancestor of the domestic dog as the wolf is thought to have selectively bred in order to breed appealing traits typical of puppies and to eliminate the not so appealing traits of adult wolves.

Joshua ★★★★★

The section on wolves dating back 300,000 years as ice age survivors genuinely surprised me, I had no idea they'd been around that long. It also walks through how they're considered the ancestor of domestic dogs, which made me look at my own pup a little differently.

I've read a few wolf books and this one actually explains how the domestic dog descended from wolves without getting too academic about it. The 300,000-year timeline stuck with me.

The part about the wolf dating back 300,000 years and being an ice age survivor genuinely caught my attention. I ended up reading the whole section on how wolves are the ancestors of domestic dogs twice, it's that interesting.
