Mallards can live in nearly any wetland habitat, natural or artificial. They'll make themselves at home in and around lakes, ponds, rivers, marshes, estuaries and coastlines, as well parks and backyards. That versatility (and a little help from humans, who likely introduced them in various locations) has allowed them to span across the globe, and they can be found across North America, Eurasia and New Zealand, and in parts of Central and South America, the Cariean, Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Japan and Australia.

Nicholas ★★★★★

The pair we added to our small park pond settled in within hours, even diving for food alongside the local geese. It's been fascinating watching them navigate between the cattails and open water.

Hazel ★★★★★

Our backyard pond is finally complete now that this mallard has moved in—it’s been dabbling in the shallows all morning and seems perfectly happy with the artificial setup. The way it drifts between the lily pads and the grass makes everything feel more alive.

Owen ★★★★★

This duck absolutely loves the little pond in our backyard, and I’m amazed at how quickly it settled into our small artificial wetland. The mallard seems perfectly content just paddling around the edges all day.
