Seeing the oryx in person at the zoo was way more impressive than any photo—those long, straight horns really stand out against the desert backdrop. It’s a shame one species is already gone from the wild, but I’m glad the captive ones are still around to observe.

I’ve been reading up on the four species, and it’s fascinating how one is now only found in captivity. The included fact sheet is a great quick reference for the kids’ school project.

The conservation story behind this oryx species is fascinating, and the description really makes you think about how fragile these animals are. I love that it covers both the wild extinction and the captive populations—it’s an important detail that adds depth.
